Where should I start if I'm thinking about renovating my kitchen?

There are many kitchen showrooms in Sydney. Most of them do very good work but of varying standards. You will need to visit some of the showrooms in your local area. You should visit at least three showrooms. Look at the quality in the showroom. The staff attending the showroom may provide you with some indication as to how the business is managed. When you are satisfied with the quality of the work and the showroom staff, ask for a designer to meet with you for a brief.

Should I visit a showroom before buying a new kitchen?

It is recommended that you visit at least three showrooms in order to form a definite feel of what you want and which company is best suited to your requirements.

How should I prepare for my kitchen renovation?

A kitchen or bathroom renovation can be very expensive and disruptive. A professional joinery company design representative will guide you through the process. Depending on the complexity of your project, you may be without a functioning kitchen for some weeks. You should arrange for storage of all your kitchen goods, arrange for some temporary cooking and washing facility, (a laundry perhaps?). Again, a high quality and professional kitchen company should provide you with floor coverings to protect your floors. If not, you will need to think about floor and furniture protection. Pets can become very nervous with all the action happening around the house. You may need to think about this as well.

How long does a kitchen renovation usually take?

Depending on the style and complexity of your project, a renovation may take between 8 to 10 weeks. This does not include the time for design and finalization of your plans.

How long will I be without a kitchen during the renovation process?

From the start of the renovation until the reconnection of your services will be around 2 to 4 weeks. This is called “Practical” Completion. But you will need to allow more time, (around 3 – 4 weeks), until the project is totally completed. There are some exceptions to this, for example, if you are doing some of the trades, or arranging for your own stone benchtop installation. If these are not under the control of the kitchen company, then delays may be incurred. This also can happen with timber floors which may need to be installed before the cabinets.

How long is your warranty? What does it cover?

We offer a 7 year statutory plus 5 years of extended warranty on all cabinets and joinery. Some of our hardware, like hinges and drawers are covered for life by the manufacturer.

What happens if there are unexpected issues? Will you deal with it?

Kitchen and bathroom renovations are complex building projects. As well as design, accurate measurements, and high quality build, you need to ensure that the company employs competent trades for the installation. Even a high quality constructed kitchen or bathroom can be poorly installed. You need to ensure, therefore, that the company you select to do your joinery employs competent people and has the reputation for quality to ensure that, should problems arise, they will be dealt with efficiently, promptly and, at no cost to you.

I've got young children - would that be a significant factor when designing a new kitchen?

All factors are significant. Children are an important part of the family and should be considered, perhaps even consulted.
